Hey, Let’s Go On a Ride
OK, I realize that roughly .00001% of you actually live close enough to do this, but what’s the point of having a blog about bikes if I can’t ask people in the area to join me on a ride once in a while?
Yesterday, Kenny sent an email proposing that on New Year’s Day we all get together and do a fun ride:
Start the new year right. Come join us for a race/ride up the Squaw Peak road to the Look out parking lot. The ride starts at 10:00 a.m. on Monday the 1st. It should take about 45 minutes to an hour to climb to the top. Thanks to the snowmobiles packing down the road, we should have a nice hardpack to ride on. We’ll all regroup at the top and ride back down together to the cars.
Squaw Peak, for those of you who don’t know, is about a mile North up the Provo Canyon. It’s a four mile climb. In the Summer it’s a road climb, but during the winter it’s packed snow, powder, and ice. I’m planning on riding my singlespeed, with air pressure at about 18psi.
I’ll bring my new camcorder, too, and try to get some footage of people riding down for posting. It should be good for laffs-a-plenty.
As for today, the sun’s out, the sky’s clear, and I’m going on a group ride. Yay, no riding in the garage!

Sorry, I’m gonna be WAY too hung-over to go on a ride. Plus I’ll be out of town. Plus I don’t think I could make it up Squaw Peak in a day, much less an hour.

Mind if I just bring my ‘cross bike and run up the hill with it slung over my back? Hill or no hill, the 4 miles would go faster that way. You a sick puppy.
Already had my LSD today.
(Long, Slow, Distance, ie 4 hour aerobic ride, Barry. Don’t get your hippie self all excited.)
Afterwards, I bogied some pot.
POst-ride Tortillas, Barry. POst-ride Tortillas.

Sounds like a great way to start the New Year. I’ll be there.

How about I do a 30 km XC Skate Ski in the hills instead. We just got 7 or 8 cm of snow so my B7 challenge will hopefully start to reverse and go the right direction!!
Happy New Year everyone!!

For those of you who may live anywhere near Southeast Kansas, we have a traditional New Year’s Day century ride. Shorter routes are an option. (I’m planning on doing 50 or maybe a metric century.) Meet at Tailwind Cyclists in Pittsburg, KS at 8:30 AM, ride starts at 9:00. This is an unsupported ride. All cyclists must be self sufficient. Century riders stop for lunch at Panerra Bread in Joplin, MO about half way through. It’s fun, come join us. Last year it was 70 degrees. It’s supposed to be in the upper 40’s this year.

I’m in – no wait no I’m not. It’s not the tyranny of distance, or the late invite (guess I was on the B list) its the complete lack of experience riding in snow (hard packed, powder, slushie, wet piste, fully piste) that would see me hog the video footage especially on the way down. Really it’s the tyranny of distance. Unless BigMike can pick me up on the way through.
Happy New Year everyone and have a great ride. Surely it’s back to FC’s for barbie, beer and teeter tottering afterwards (more good video footage).
All the best from Sth Oz.

Fatty, hey, I heard Lance wussed out on the LT100. I s’pose you shouldn’t have intimidated him so much by announcing the fact that you upped your winter training.

I will be riding at 2PM with the Midnight Ridazz (http://midnightridazz.com/), from Hollywood roundabout the Miracle Mile to Los Angeles (about 15 mi flat). Figure all the crazy/drunk drivers will be home watching the game.
You all have a wonderful time in the snow, and be careful out there!

I am going to try and make it. I’m not sure where the meeting place is though – can somebody post some more specific directions or a map?

Rain rain and more rain today. Bummer. Worked out opening and closing the fridge instead.

b21 – I hear that can be great for back and chest development. However, unless you get a second fridge with a door opening up the opposite way, you will get serious imbalances and start walking in circles because of the added mass.

Uncadan I was concerned with that, so it’s left hand for the fridge, right hand for the freezer. I am in balance. Fat, but in balance.

My boyfriend and I were going to go on a “First Ride of the Year” ride, but about half an hour after I got up in the morning, it started raining.
Did I mention it was 35 degrees at the time? Cold. And the rain coming down was cold, too.
We didn’t leave the house. Instead, we set our bikes up on trainers (in separate parts of the house) and rode that way. Hmph. But it got rid of my hangover, and that was really all my goal was for the day.

Bummer…I was down in Parowan nursing a sprained ankle (skiing accident). Otherwise, I’d have been all over getting my tail dropped.
