Susan’s New Hardware
Susan’s got herself a fancy new hip. The surgery took a long time, but went well.
The surgeon says her hip wasn’t just cracked. It was full-on busted.
He said the ball just crumbled like balsa wood as he took it out.
I, for one, can’t believe Susan got along as well as she did for as long as she did.
I’ll continue to post little mini-entries like this over the next couple days using my iPhone. And I’ll be sure to pass along all the encouraging messages you’ve been sending her way. Thanks very much for your prayers, thoughts, and wishes on her behalf. They mean a lot to both of us.
It’s been quite a day. I’m exhausted.

Woo Hoo! I am so glad all went well. Rest up Fatty, because once she has recovered from surgery, you aren’t going to be able to keep up with her!
Wishing you both the best.

DNAtsol – Nice. Very nice. We’ll deal with this in private. Speaking of private – Fatty, you just posted a picture of the inside of your wife!?! That just seems, I don’t know, odd. Nonetheless, it is rather a pretty hip and dna and I are seriously happy that Susan came through things well today. You wouldn’t believe how many times the two of us checked your blog today. To be honest, he and I had a pretty stressful medical day ourselves, but during it, we kept saying to each other “how do you think Susan is doing?” I think we were more worried about her than we were about me!
Best to you both.

Really glad it went well… prayers will continue.
One of the best things about this blog is how you face life with brave faces and a sense of humour, for that alone you both deserve our support and well wishes.
All be best for the recovery period,
JC

I, personally, would be more mad at the posting of the pre-op shot than with the one of her insides, but none of it really matters when you think of pain free ambulation. Heal well. Hooray Susan!
Comment by Walter | 11.28.2007 | 7:16 pm
Glad to hear all went well today — what a relief to have that part done. Here’s sending best wishes/karma/etc. for the recovery. Thanks for keeping us updated — I know you’ve got lots of other things to focus on…
Comment by Lucas | 11.28.2007 | 7:24 pm
Wow…you better get ready for her to kickbox your butt for posting a picture of her bottom on the internet! Hang tough!
Comment by Jodi | 11.28.2007 | 7:33 pm
Yay! A new hip. Old hips are sooo 80’s. New hips are the new black. I could go on and on, but I doubt even the pain medication makes me that funny.
Love you two monkeys.
Comment by Beast Mom | 11.28.2007 | 7:36 pm
awesome. I’m so glad this got done earlier. You guys hang in there. We’re all pulling for you.

p.s. that other post comparing Susan to Lance/Floyd, etc. was hilarious. I know the situation is not so hilarious at all, but I admire that you can still keep your sense of humor.
Comment by Sprocketboy | 11.28.2007 | 7:47 pm
This good result must be very encouraging! Step 1 completed: hooray! A speedy recovery and out on the dance floor, please. If that is allowed in Utah. And if it isn’t, I am sure that exceptions will be made for courage!

Yikes, Susan! I can’t believe you were walking at all with that hip! You are an amazing woman. I’m so glad everything went well for you and yes, that is one fine looking new hip!
Comment by BotchedExperiment | 11.28.2007 | 7:59 pm
From the X-ray it doesn’t look like she got the new scandium/carbon fiber composit hip. What’s up? You wouldn’t pony up the extra money for the upgrade?
Comment by lowrydr | 11.28.2007 | 8:03 pm
Great news on the surgery going good. Now just get some sleep caught up on, both of you. I’m sure that lovely Sis of yours will help watch the kids so you can get caught up. Peace and Healing coming your way.

Just remember when you take the trip to Italy… with that much hardware on board you’ll need to arrive at the airport days in advance to make it through all the metal detectors.
On the upside… from memory Italy is getting pretty close to the top of that checklist.

Fatty, thanks so much for posting. Now that you’ve brought all of us into your world, it’s only fair that you keep us up to date!
It is amazing how your thoughts can wander throughout the day to a person you have never met but it happened for me this week. I would be going about my day, Susan would come to mind, so I’d breath a prayer for her.
Today was a nice start to the day to know that she came through the surgery well and with new components! Very nice.

She’s gonna be GREAT!! A cycling buddy of mine who is about my age (58) had it done to both hips a few years back and says it changed his life. Lots of hard work ahead, but worth it!! Good luck – CN
