I’ve been trying not to think of you and your wife all day ’cause I’m still supposed to be working. But I’ve wondered how you’re doing more than once, and will continue to send positive thoughts your way.

Delurking to say you’re in my thoughts today. I hope Susan “enjoys” her nap and this helps with her pain.

Susan, I’m hoping this brings you relief. Take care, rest up, and try to sneak some of Kenny’s and Floyd’s hip-ness on your way back. We’re with you!

Make sure they give you some nice titanium upgrades while they’re in there! Here’s to a quick recovery from the anesthesia and surgery…Jeffy

If you say “break a leg” instead of “good luck” to actors so as not to jinx them, what is the proper wish for some getting a hip replacement? “Break a leg” seems inappropriate somehow, and perhaps redundant.

I’ll just settle for “enjoy the ride and all the best.”

Good luck Susan. Hang tough fatty.

I had surgery back in August and I thouroughly enjoyed the “I don’t care” pre-surgery shot. If I were you, I’d slip my arm next to Susan’s when they administer the shot, you’ll be much more relaxed the rest of the day.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Susan today. God speed the recovery of the operation and to win the battle against cancer.

    Night, night, Susan.

P.S. I used to work as an in-patient physical therapist aid at AF hospital. We used to see a couple total hip replacements a week. Although it’s a painful surgery, often people would be pretty happy within a couple days of the surgery. They’d say “yeah, it hurts, but before it was pure agony, and now at least it hurts differently than it used to.”

  16. Comment by Brandy | 11.28.2007 | 12:53 pm

Susan, my cousin has battled colorectal cancer and so far has been winning his battle. But he said the worst thing about his fighting cancer was that it put off his hip replacements. Yup, that is replacements with a “s”. He had the first one done over the summer, and will have the second next summer. He was in so much pain from his hips, that the surgery was a huge help. He is now post-op like 5 months, and he no longer has a limp in his left leg, and that hip is virtually pain free. So there is a light at the end of this surgical tunnel.
I wish you good luck and a swift recovery!!

Susan, You are in my prayers. May God be with you and your surgical staff. I pray that the relief and healing you experience will be complete.

71 year old friend of mine had his replaced November 6. He was up and walking the next day, with what he described as “discomfort” as opposed to pain. I wish the same for you!

God bless your family and I ask his comfort for you during your healing.

    Susan,
Go to sleep… it will all be better when you wake up.

    Fatty,
What did yall decide on? Steel, Titanium, or Carbon Fiber? I have heard that some people can hear the radio through their teeth with those things. This will be helpful during your rides in leadville. The body position for the race radio frequency is just a little bit uncomfortable…

    Go Team Fatty!!! :-)

P.S. – Paging Al Maviva… paging Al Maviva… snarky comments needed on fattys blog. I hope you survived your hunting trip with Cheney.

Godspeed Susan. You too, Elden. I’m not sure which of you is luckier for having the other, but I’m glad that you (collectively) do, and will continue to for a good long while.

Still praying for you, Susan! I hope you get that nap, too!

  36. Comment by Kris | 11.28.2007 | 4:24 pm

Fatty, I’m not sure what to make of you publishing a photo of your wife in the hospital. Do you feel obligated to show your supporters what their donations are buying? Do you trust that because of the cancer ordeal Susan has shed her concern about keeping up appearances? Or are you just intelligence-challenged?

All I know is that photos of my wife in the hospital from the birth of our children are NOT for public viewing. I still have a painful injury from making that mistake. ;-)

I am here holding down the fort with the kiddos while Susan is becoming the “hippest” one in the family!
I just got a text message from my brother…Elden.. and so here is the latest.

“Nurse just called and said it went very well. Dr. will be coming to talk with me in a minute and then I can go see Susan.”

So…that’s all the info I have, but it seems positive so far.
Thanks for all your cyber space support to my brother and his family.

Great! Thanks for the update, Kellene!

Still praying – That the “went very well” means what it sounds like to us non-medical people.

And praying for a full & speedy recovery at a pain level much reduced from that past few days.

We’ll take “went very well”. Have several friends that have had hip replacements, one that had both done. They say there is no pain like hip pain and no better relief than replacement. You be dancin’ soon.
