In Lieu of Posting Anything Substantive Today…
…I will listen to the brand new Green Day album, 21st Century Breakdown, over and over and over. Including while I am on my ride. I suspect my riding may be somewhat…aggressive.
How is it possible that a band can be this good?

Mile High Mark, I remember (or rather I vaguely remember) a two week period when we were roadies for SLF. A fantastic period of my life (I think?).

You’ll ask, about Green Day(!), something as inflammatory as “how can a band be this good” but not be willing to mention politics or religion on your blog?
I will admit to listening to the album “Dookie” over and over for a summer in high school. After that, I haven’t much liked their stuff–probably more due to overexposure from radio and whatnot.

Funny – I just fired up my new Green Day album on the computer, opened my RSS feeds to read Fatty’s blog and low and behold, he is listening to the same thing. I agree with Fatty – GREAT BAND. Green Day is a throwback to the punk/rock I grew up on… when we all bought entire albums. Now they have two “punk rock operas” to their credit. Move over The Who (and I don’t say that lightly.)

The last Green Day album I liked was Dookie. But Kerplunk might be the pinnacle of their music.

Gotta speak up for Green Day, American Idiot has saved my life on numerous occasions, literally can’t live without them! You would never guess it by looking at me, but there is many a day when I need to blast the boys at full volume.

I’d go one step further than Mile High Mark and strongly recommend the album that Suspect Device comes from: Inflammable Material.
I grew up in Northern Ireland and Stiff Little Fingers were my heroes (sorry Jake). IIRC, I saw them at the Ulster Hall in ‘80 and they had a great support band – a four-piece combo from the South called U2. I am told they went on to do quite well…

They came to Wales in the early 80’s and their road crew all got sick, so some of the university ents guys filled in for them for a week or so. North Wales, Liverpool and I think Lancaster. For some reason my memory is a bit hazy, can’t think why.
I also saw U2 around then, they came over to Liverpool, supporting the Comsat Angels. They were rubbish, couldn’t play very well, but obviously had some spark about them even then.

Yeah – another Green Day fan! I love to listen to their stuff on the bike. I have a long ride planned for Saturday, so downloaded the new album onto my player and am ready to hit the road – pumped with Green Day goodness! I’m not really into music, but do love Green Day!

As an old person, (the 70s were my formative years), I really prefer Lynyrd Skynyrd. Gimme Three Steps is my perfect cadence!

You just have to respect whatever music helps you turn the cranks. I’m used to listed to U2’s Atomic Bomb album for an inspirational type of motivation…then I found the Dropkick Murphy’s “Meanest of Times”. I’ll do a two song warm up, put on Meanest of Times and do a killer 42 minute cardio.
This might be a killer forum topic, “What is your favorite workout/riding playlist”.

I don’t know whether I’ll like it. It might take me, like, six weeks to figure out. I’ll probably know by July 3rd or so. When they open their North America tour in Seattle.
Not that I’m gloating or anything…
(and the now 15-year-old (my oh my am I getting old) daughter gets to come with us, as I think she’s old enough to see Billy Joe’s butt…)
Did I mention that it’s the first night of the tour? Yeah, I bet it won’t be very good…

Green Day rocks – they’ve been around forever now.
Being an old and huge Ramones fan – laugh at a bit at the “mainstream” popularity of Green Day – while the Ramones slugged it out during the ’70s – ’90s making probably nothing compared to Green Day.
The Ramones and a few other bands paved the way for Green Day.
