Fight Cancer, Win an Intense Spider 2 with 2011 Shimano XTR & a Fox Fork
A Congratulatory Note from Fatty: HUGE props to Team Fatty Philly for winning the Team Time Trial award for the 2010 Philadelphia LiveStrong Challenge! And ultra-giant props to co-captain Philly Jenn for leading the charge. Is there a more awesome team captain anywhere? No. No there is not.
Fight Cancer, Win an Intense Spider 2
Let me make a few bold assertions here.
- There is no bike company that is more thoroughly immersed in full suspension mountain biking than Intense Cycles.
- No mountain bike company has more credibility in the full suspension arena than Intense Cycles.
- If you’ve ever wanted a full suspension mountain bike and didn’t check out Intense Cycles, you didn’t do your homework.
So, yeah: Intense Cycles is pretty much synonymous with being able to ride over rocks, roots and ledges without touching your brakes.
And the Spider 2 is Intense Cycles’ XC and lightweight trail bike. Check it out:
Cross-country? Definitely. All-mountain? Yep. Marathon? Sure.
The Spider 2 has the revolutionary VPP suspension platform that pedals better than any bike on the market, yet still soaks up bumps from tiny chatters to big hits.
You know what you’ve got here? You’ve got one of the most desirable bikes you can buy.
Now, picture this bike, paired with top-of-the-line 2011 Shimano M980 Series XTR, from brakes to drivetrain to wheels. You can build it up with the super-light Race version … or the burlier trail version.
Which do you want to go with? It’s your call. You can’t go wrong either way, honestly…Just like XTR was designed for 2011 … It’s rider tuned giving you the options to choose the right components for how you ride.
All of this is topped off with a 2011 Fox 32 Talas Fit Terralogic Fork with Kashima coating & PRO components for the stem, bar, and seatpost.
Oh my. We’re starting to drool a little bit, aren’t we?
Darn right we are.
You know how much this bike would cost, retail? More than $6000, that’s how much. And it would be worth it.
Easily.
But Shimano and Intense Cycles are partnering to give one away, in the name of helping Team Fatty in our fight against cancer.
Fight Cancer, Win a Dream Mountain Bike
As those of you who have entered these contests before know, all proceeds of the Team Fatty raffles go straight to LiveStrong, because the work they’re doing in helping people fight cancer made a big difference in Susan’s life, my life, and in the lives of many others I’ve met.
In other words, whether you win the bike or not, you’re doing something good and important.
So you can win in either of two ways:
- Donate money to my LiveStrong Challenge page. For every $5 you donate at my LiveStrong Challenge page between now and Friday, August 27, you get a virtual ticket, which could be the winner of the Intense Cycles Spider 2, built up with 2011 Shimano M980 Series XTR. Click here to donate now.
- Raise money in your own Team Fatty LiveStrong Challenge page. If you’re a member of Team Fatty, every $5.00 you raise on your own LiveStrong Challenge since the beginning of this year through Friday, August 27 earns you a ticket, too. So — obviously — now’s a great time for you to make a donation on your own page as well as to press friends and family to make a donation (You don’t have to tell them that they’re increasing your chances of winning a bike when they do). And if you aren’t a member of Team Fatty, now’s a great time for you to join and start raising money to fight cancer and win cool stuff for yourself.
By the way: if you win and live outside the US, we’ll still cover shipping, but you’re responsible for paying customs. Cool? Yeah, I thought so.
How Can You Join Team Fatty?
Luckily, it’s really, really easy to join Team Fatty.
- Click here to go to the Austin Team Fatty page.
- Click the “Join Our Team” link.
- Fill out the form. If you’re not planning to attend the event, join the virtual challenge to avoid the $50 registration fee.
- Start fundraising. You’ve got to raise a minimum of $250 to attend LiveStrong Challenge event.
Good Luck!
I love mountain biking, and I’m convinced that anyone who doesn’t has never ridden a really great mountain bike.
And believe me, this is a really great mountain bike. And most importantly, I love that we’re all doing this for one of the most important, unifying causes there is — fighting cancer.
Whether you win something or not, you’re still doing something really great for a cause that affects every one of us.
Thanks, and good luck!

We are thinking about doing Leadville on a one of the new tandem 29′ers but that could change if we won this bike! Congrats to you and Lisa for your great Leadville race (there will be a Leadville Race Report, Part 3 with Lisa’s story, won’t there? please?)
Very disappointed that work commitments will prevent you from joining us in Philly. Sending Lance instead just doesn’t make up for your absence.
And I want to add my huge thanks to Philly Jenn for all she has done the past two years. We choose to do Philly this year because of her great enthusiasm. We’re going to rock this weekend.

And Fatty…this bike is off the charts cool! Only your Orbea Orca w/ Di2 last year had me jonesing more…(and THANK YOU SO MUCH for recognizing ALL of Team Fatty’s fundraising efforts ALL YEAR in this contest! THAT is even cooler than the bike!) Whoever wins this beauty will truly love it! Good luck everybody…GAME ON!

Done. My mom had breast cancer and passed away almost 3 years ago. I miss her every day. I hate cancer.
Comment by Erik | 08.18.2010 | 11:40 am
Elden, dear friend, I fear the high altitude exertion from Leadville must have damaged your brain somehow.
Team Fatty Austin is the best team, and MikeRoadie is the best captain. I love Philly Jen, she is the one who recruited me to Team Fatty, but the Austin crowd is gonna crush it this year.

I’m in! The bike is amazing and I really, really want it. Cancer sucks.

Fatty, once again well done. Point of clarification, Fundraising method #2 – do funds raised this year for LiveSTRONG team Fatty San Jose or Seattle challenge qualify for entry? Attractive, but almost seems too easy.
Cheers
Yes they do. The money Team Fatty members raised earlier in the year gives them a chance at this bike. Similarly, money you raise hoping to win this bike also gets you a chance at THE NEXT bike. And I promise, there will be a next bike. – FC

When I win, can I come to Utah and ride with you? Or will you come to Colorado to ride with me?

Hey! How about a Team Fatty wet suit give-away for those of us raising money to fight cancer with Swim Across America?
Actually, I’d rather win the bike….

Philly Fatties Rock!
Can’t wait to see everyone this weekend… SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to the event.

I’ve been wondering which team I should join. I was leaning toward Philly but I guess Austin it is.
Two questions though.
1. What is the deal with all the folks who have no money raised? Really they couldn’t even throw $5 in there. That’s just odd to me.
2. why don’t you have a button or some other link to LAF on your side bar? I get that the ads that are there are paying but it just seems weird to me that in order to find the team fatty page I have to scroll through your archives and find a post that has a link in it. I’m just sayin…
However, despite the lack of button you’re a hero, keep it up!

That bike is so droolworthy, indeed :-)
Quick question, I’m gonna donate, but can I still win the bike if I live outside of the US?
Comment by Mike Roadie | 08.19.2010 | 5:28 am
Way to go Fatty! Way to go Intense! Way to go Philly Jen (the second greatest Team Captain)!

Hi Fatty, Joined your team for the Austin Livestrong challenge, just like in Seattle. Hope to raise more money for this great cause.
Comment by Dan | 08.19.2010 | 10:04 am
Soliciting bribes to be named a US Senator, bad. Soliciting bribes to fight cancer, good. I donated in honor of my friend Olivia who beat breast cancer last year. I donated in support of your fight. But I really donated because that’s an amazing bike. Me want. Thanks Fatty.
Comment by Philly Jen | 08.19.2010 | 11:14 am
The real props go out to our front five riders, who helped secure the Team Time Trial title for us, and to all their teammates who supported them with 11th-hour donations.
Special thanks go to both Nick Coronel (Rider #5) and also Eric Vincent (Rider #6), who both amped up their fundraising during the critical final weekend and finished within $100 of each other at the cutoff, ensuring that we secured the award by a comfortable margin.
@ Mike Roadie — I’m glad that you and I are in agreement that Clydesteve is the greatest Team Captain.

I, too, am a very new reader of this great blog. Loving it so far. As well as being an avid biker, I’m also a cancer survivor, so Livestrong is a charity that’s very near and dear to my heart… I’m always looking for any excuse to send them more money. Thanks for making it so easy to pull the trigger on another donation! ;)
