Greetings From Chicago
I woke up at 4:45AM in Austin; now I’m In a taxi in a traffic jam in Chicago, on the way to my company’s office. There, I’ll be engaged in what will probably be the most intense 4 days in my career (no, this blog doesn’t pay the bills).
In other words, while I hope to post at least once or twice this week, I don’t know when or how often.
So please, talk amongst yourselves. And if any Team Fatty members have stories and / or photos you’d like to share from the weekend, well, I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one who’d love to see them.

There is a guy who also did an Ironman (the Grand Floridian in Clermont, Florida) on little to no training. He (coincidentally) raises money for the Susan G. Komen foundation. So, while Fatty is working, here is a link to his blog – http://briankuritzky.wordpress.com
Good luck at work!

Knock em dead in the boardroom Fatty. Don’t forget to get some good brats while you’re in Chicago.

Welcome to Chicago! And thanks for bringing this beautiful day with you!

I’ve been waiting for the Fatty-CarboRocket merger for a while. Glad to see it’s finally happening.
Comment by Will | 10.25.2010 | 11:48 am
Fatty! Want pizza? Go to Giordano’s. I love it there. Best of luck, and try to enjoy the Windy City if you can.
Let me know if you have time to be bought a brat – love to do the honors.
Comment by Jase | 10.25.2010 | 12:01 pm
Fatty, you should do an impromptu Chicago ride like Lance does when he visits other cities.
Then we could all get sausages or pizzas after the ride!
Comment by Elizabeth | 10.25.2010 | 12:22 pm
hope you get a chance to take a bike ride on the lake path. it’s a beautiful day for it!
Comment by Ken | 10.25.2010 | 12:31 pm
Hey Fatty!
Welcome to the Chi! You should head over to the Music Box Movie theater tonight to watch Cyclocross Meeting!
Barry Wicks and a shot load of same minded folk will be there! Drop me an email and I can give you the 411…

We have an office branch around Madison and Riverside. Whenever I get shipped off to that office I find that the subway is the only humane to get from the airport to downtown. The taxis are slow and expensive. Or use a bike; I am sure you have a fold-up somewhere in your arsenal. (Perhaps the new Trek, Gary Fisher signature series carbon Folding-Fly with all XTR/Pro components and a custom paint job.)

Chicago Fatties (or Fatty Friends) of the world, unite! I’m from Chicago too. We should start a group. Seriously. Sir. F. Cyclist, enjoy your stay!

We’re having beautiful weather here in Chicago this week! Get out there and ride, even if only for a little while. And skip the cabs, take the el. That’s real Chicago for you!
Comment by Rob | 10.25.2010 | 3:32 pm
Good to know you’re in town. It’ll be good riding weather this week, but ask me again in 2 days, after I’ve experienced the 60 mph crosswinds.
Comment by Jill2 | 10.25.2010 | 4:55 pm
The current spate of adverts on your website totally sucks – political ads that turn on automatically and play an irritating video if you accidentally roll your curser over them. And as far as I can tell, there is no way to get them to turn off except by leaving the site. I can understand trying to make a buck, but this is out of control.
Comment by christine | 10.25.2010 | 5:45 pm
Also sent my regards to a fellow fatty (girl wearing the pink and white jersey) at the Tour de Bronx, but was done in passing. We’re everywhere!
Comment by Stephen | 10.25.2010 | 5:47 pm
Eric, good brats come from Wisconsin, which is also where the best cycling is. I’ve got a spare bike if you want to travel “Up North”, Fatty.
Comment by roan | 10.25.2010 | 6:01 pm
WOW ! Is that bullet proof glass the pic was taken through ?
Double WOW !! I didn’t even know you had a company. Weigh to go high roller. If ever in doubt just click your heels together & repeat…”This ain’t U-tah”. The canyons just don’t look right.
Comment by roan | 10.25.2010 | 6:30 pm
Just think’n…Fatty in Chicago…an old cow town of a bye gone era, heh ? But maybe there’s still a few stray cows that some Fatties could help you round up and drive back to Alpine, sort of a reverse “City Slicker”. On the way you could inject them with clenbuterol to see if you could help out poor Contador.
ps. at the board meeting besides letting them know you are the one & only Fatty, maybe you could get them to fund the cattle drive. And to ease tension tell them to refer to you as “T-Bone”

Another Fatty supporter in Chicago here. You should drop a line to us if you have time for a ride, or other impromptu get together.
Comment by bibliogrrl | 10.25.2010 | 7:25 pm
Oi. You want the GOOD Chicago Style pizza, so avoid Giordano’s and go to Pequod’s. It is where people who actually LIVE in Chicago eat.
Chicago is a great cycling city, but there is supposed to be WEATHERGEDDON tomorrow, so probably no riding in your downtime.
Hope the city treats you well!

Welcome to Illinois!!! Enjoy a ride this week while you are in our flat and windy land!!!
Comment by HeidiR | 10.25.2010 | 8:46 pm
@Stephen – totally agree that WI has awesome cycling! Perhaps we need a Fatty branch in Wisconsin, too – there must be more of us.
Hey Fatty, how about coming to WI for the Trek 100 next June? We’ll treat you to brats and beer!

The Four most intense days of your career? That can only mean one thing: Your cosmetology board exams! Knock ‘em dead in Chicago. Keep the clippers sharp and the curling iron hot!

Hey you are in chi-town just in time for all of the wind that the area is going to get. ^_^

‘Worst Storm In 70 Years’ Bears Down On Chicago…
Good luck man. Hope you brought a coat.
Comment by Richard | 10.25.2010 | 10:35 pm
Good wishes to you, Eldon, as you negotiate the perils of the office! Rode the LiveStrong Philly this year, got rained out of the 100. Did the 70 at least, and sent a few dollars your way as part of Team Fatty. Have lost too many friends to cancer, and a near miss with my spouse, whose breast cancer was found early and contained and removed. My own brush with melanoma in 1987 has taught me to live, and my bike is a geat way to do just that. Hope to see you someday in person, until then, keep riding, and loving those children of yours.

You’re in Chicago?! Have a great time and good luck with work! Sorry about the weather today. Too bad I couldn’t hop over there from Michigan for a bike ride!
Comment by Tambo731 | 10.26.2010 | 7:30 am
The Austin ride was great. It was my first. I did the 45 mile. Add me as a friend on facebook. I will be posting pics and ride report tonight. my email is mark_731@msn.com. BTW, if anyone was there, I was the guy wearing the plad shorts, white T, and dessert cammo cammelback. My only regret is that I did not get a chance to meet Elden.

Haha! Welcome to the “Windy City”. Hope you don’t get blown away today. I agree with bibliogrrl. Definitely get Pequod’s Pizza. Best. Pizza. Ever.

I know everyone is saying brats and dogs and stuffed pizza but really I’d go Mexican (like Nuevo Leon in Pilsen) or Korean/Vietnamese (like Tank Noodle or the place next to Tank Noodle on Argyle and Broadway)- which would be a lovely bike ride up the Lakeshore Drive bike path (bike freeway is really more like it).

Good luck in Chicago Fatty! You can handle intense! We already know that!
This past weekend, I rode a century called The Day of the Tread here in Albuquerque,New Mexico. We raised lots of money to fund blood cancer research. Check out my blog for the ride report.

To those I met briefly in Austin it was a pleasure to those I didn’t get to maybe next year :) @Jenni great blog posting,

I’m not a member of Team Fatty at this point, because I didn’t know what a Team was before I’d registered for this year’s Challenges… HOWEVER… as a big fan, I wanted to share this photo.
But you should know that my son was JUST AS excited to meet YOU as he was Levi Leipheimer.

Hook up with Brad Keyes and head out to the Chicago Cyclocross Cup race on Sunday! We’d love to have an internet celebrity ride in the 4B category. Oreo and salted nut roll hand ups?

Not much riding going on here in the Windy city Wed. a little better today. Just watched some video of the cyclocross from last year,Thanks to Heather Jurewicz vimeo,You should definitely check that out if you have the time. Or I know a nice trail up north thru the woods that you can get 50miles on up & back. The upper Midwest definitely needs a team Fatty in 2011!

Portillo’s is the place to go, have a chocolate cake shake!
Comment by Renata | 11.6.2010 | 11:02 am
Fatty,
You should have called — I would have brought you a bike and pedaled along the lakefront with you and taken you to Portillos for the best beef sandwiches in da whole-wide-world and then gotten you a pizza from Home Run Inn to take home with you…..
You should called….maybe next time…..
