“Lose Ten Pounds By Christmas” Final Weigh-in (Updated As Often As Necessary)

12.23.2010 | 8:26 am

A Note From Fatty: Today is the last day you can enter the “Help Andreas Knickman Fight Bone Cancer, Tour Italy with Andy-Freaking-Hampsten” contest. Click here for details on who you’re helping and why, and then click below to donate.

Just so you know, so far we’ve raised $13,800 for Andreas. It would be awesome if we could end the contest by telling them we raised $15,000.

And thanks, everyone, for your generosity. I’m astounded and impressed at the way Fat Cyclist readers give.

I’ll contact the winner of this contest early next week.

Another Note from Fatty: If you haven’t joined Team Fatty for 2011, you should. I go into it in great detail in yesterday’s post, which you can read here. Or you can simply go to the Team Fatty LiveStrong Challenge page, click the “Join Our Team” link, and sign up. I’m cool with either one.

Your Weight

Today is the final day you have to weigh in, too. You need to post as follows:

1. Your starting weight
2. Your current weight
3. Your total weight loss
4. Any special thing you did to get to that loss of ten pounds

If — like me — you need to do some “last minute weight loss” before you get to that magic number, get to it. You have ’til midnight (your midnight, not mine) today to post a comment with your numbers.

Make sure you fill in the email field when you enter your comment so I can get back ahold of you if you win.

When I’ll Announce Winners

Well, since you can post your weight anytime today, I won’t be contacting winners today. And there’s no way I’m going to spend Christmas Eve (that’s tomorrow) finding and contacting more than 100 winners. Same goes with Christmas day.

And frankly, it’s going to take more than a day for me to draw and contact that many people.

So let’s say that I’ll contact winners early next week. Fair enough?

My Weigh-In, Version 1.0

Last night, after a busy day of work and an exhausting evening of Christmas shopping, The Runner and I went to a popular Mexican place: Cafe Rio. I got the Grilled Chicken Tostada, which is not quite enough food for three people.

I of course ate the whole thing.

So it should not surprise you that when I weighed myself, I came in at 167.2 — exactly four pounds too heavy to say I lost ten pounds.

I am not content.

Luckily, I am now on vacation, The Runner is at work, the kids are still in bed, and I have rented Inception (no, I have not seen it yet).

So I am going to get out the rollers and ride until I weigh 163.2.

I shall report back on my progress from time to time.

My Weigh-In, Version 1.1

Okay, just finished watching the first hour of Inception. I now weigh 166.6 pounds. Somehow, I thought I’d be down at least a whole pound by now.

Looks like I’ll be riding for quite a while.

My Weigh-In, Version 1.2

I’m now two hours into Inception, and am happy to report I now weigh 164.8 pounds. 1.6 pounds to go. Luckily, this movie is a lot of fun to watch (although perhaps a little too obvious and non-convoluted for my tastes), and is also very, very long.

Unluckily, I need to go run errands for a little while, so I’ll have to pause the movie and get back to my “weight loss” when I get back.

My Weigh-In, Version 1.3

I’m back from errand running now. About an hour an a half has elapsed. I just weighed myself again and am now at 164.2 pounds. I can only conclude that errand-running is a highly effective (albeit heretofore unknown) weight loss technique.

I think it’s entirely possible that I will lose the final pound necessary while riding the rollers for the last half hour of Inception, provided I ratchet up the resistance on my rollers a notch.

My Weigh-In, Version 1.4

The movie’s over. Not exactly sure what happened, but I can state unequivocally that I am very, very thirsty.

Sadly, my weight is 163.4 pounds, which is 0.2 pounds too heavy. I think another fifteen minutes on the rollers will do the trick, however.

And then I will enjoy a nice cold drink. And, I believe, a sandwich.

My Weigh-In, Version 2.0

Drumroll, please. My weight is now. . . 162.8 pounds, which is 0.4 more than I had to lose.

See? Losing 10.4 pounds by Christmas is easy. Even if you have to lose the final 4.4 pounds in one day.

I am sad but i figure 4 pounds is better than no pounds. It would seem my diet of pretzel M&M’s is not the magic bullet for weight loss. I plan to follow up this weekend with the mint flavored ones. I will let you know how that goes!

    Happy Holidays everyone!!

    1. Your starting weight: 165.0
    2. Your current weight: 153.6
    3. Your total weight loss: 11.4lbs
    4. The biggest thing I did was put a stop to my night time snacking and I ate smaller portions at meals. I avoided potlucks like the plague. I also bike for 1 hour intervals instead of my usual 45 min on the trainer. I’m shocked that this actually worked!!!

    Beginning Weight 268.3
    Current Weight 256.9
    Weight Loss 11.4

I attribute this to: 3 pounds coming off the Thanksgiving and 25 Anniversary feasts, 4-5 pounds due to hard work and dedicated time on a trainer, and the remainder to a nifty virus I contracted and have not eaten much for the past 4 days. Now to try and not rebound…..

Thanks Fatty, and I wish a most Merry Christmas to you, the Runner and the combined family!

  4. Comment by GenghisKhan | 12.23.2010 | 8:36 am

    1. 203 pounds, one week in
    2. 193 pounds, today (seriously!)
    3. 10 pounds! (can’t wait to get the wheelset…)
    4. What I did? Reduced/eliminated snacking, sensible meals, lots of time on the treadmill/recumbent

Good luck to all and thanks once again Fatty! This one has been fun and even if the contest is fixed and I don’t get the wheels, the weight loss alone will be worth it.

    Merry Christmas to all FoFs!

Total Weight Loss: Exactly 10 pounds!

I’ve stalled so much this year on continuing my weight loss, that over the entire year I’ve only lost about 26 pounds. Ten fo them came from this challenge. My goal for 2011 is to be below 170, and to become a serious contender on the bike.

    Merry Christmas to all!

I MADE IT. I really didn’t expect it since I had a broken ankle and was in a walking boot until last week. What I did special was limited my calories (most days) to 1300 and parked in a parking lot farthar than usual so I had a longer walk to work. I’ve got 16.5 pounds to go to reach my goal of 200 that I set in April of 2009. THANKS FOR THE MOTIVATION FATTY.

Okay, I have to admit I lost the last 1.5 running in my coat at the gym, but I haven’t weighed this much in the last 14 years!!!! Thanks for the inspiration to do something I really didn’t think I could do.

But I’m claiming 10.5 because the scale (which rounds to the nearest pound) spent ages bouncing around between 158 and 159. We just got a 3-year old Foxhound-whippet cross. She likes to run and so I got some serious workouts in the woods on foot or on the MTB. Plus, the car is in the shop getting a new engine so I had to ride to work, like it or not. That helped. Oh, and eating way too much a T’giving and so getting my starting weight way up really helped, too.

    4. How: Eggwhite, spinach & cheese omelets for breakfast, rollers 2-3x/week, gym for 1hr 2x/week, smaller (i.e. reasonable) portions and no latenight snacking.

Fatty, this is the lowest I’ve weighed in years. Thanks again for kickstarting what I needed to do a long time ago! Next stop: 190lbs!

Merry Christmas to you, Fatty, and to all the other swell folks that worked hard to lose some weight in this competition!

    4. What special thing did I do? Well, I exercised… Um, once? Twice? Which is one or two times more than I usually do in the winter… I ate less. That’s the big one — I don’t recall ever really being hungry before during the day, but that’s definitely been there. I had only 1 can of pop and a couple of adult beverages during the whole thing, and ate eggs or toast instead of Coco Puffs for breakfast. Most of it’s probably reasonable stuff to do, but I’m looking forward to spring when I can get outside for exercise and balance things a little better.

    4. Any special thing you did to get to that loss of ten pounds – did not eat near enough and gave up adult beverages. The beverages was the hardest to give up. I also ran 2+ miles every morning and did spinning for 1 hour 3 night per week.

I am glad that I will now be able to eat Christmas goodies and have adult beverages with my family that will all be in for the holidays.

    Thanks for the opportunity Fatty.

    4. The biggest thing I did was to ignore the sales of a popular Dutch beer at 22 dollars a case (OMG that was harder than I thought) and stop all food consumption after 6PM. I added 2 hours a week on the trainer, even though my current heftiness strained my puny carbon fibre seat post to the point I thought it might break ( it creaked and groaned) and impale me you know where…

Less snacking, portion control at meals (the first 2 weeks left me feeling hungry. Replaced soda with water. Back on the bike (road and mountain)and indoor trainer classes using trainer DVDs. At first, I wondered if it would work in time. Lots of daily fluctuations.
I am now modivated to hit below 170 for the first time since… well… When dinosaurs ruled the earth. Now… off to buy pants that won’t fall when I walk.

  23. Comment by Cris | 12.23.2010 | 9:02 am

    Starting 242.4
    Current: 246.6

What I did to gain…. *sigh*

With all the extra weight it started to come off. I lost a good chunk of weight but then nature kicked in and basically is hanging around until roughly Saturday, when I will most likely drop around 10-12 pounds (if history repeats itself).

I’m upset I didn’t make it but I can’t help what happened. So goes life, eh? I have not given up, I have just learned to deal with my body’s weight fluctuations.

On top of all this, my treadmill is blocked by the stupid Christmas tree. So I will be tearing that tree down on Dec 26th and pull the treadmill out and start training for a half marathon.

What I normally do: Eat sensible, low calorie and low sodium foods and drink water. I don’t drink soda. I usually run 1-2 miles every other day and do exercise videos in between along with playing on the Wii.

What I’m not willing to do: dehydrate myself. not eat. not treat my body correctly just to lose a couple pounds. get excited over false weight loss (what good is 5 pounds lost if its just a number, if it comes back the moment I drink a glass of water).

Congratulations to all the people who completed the challenge.

Well, I’m a little bit surprised with the result. Never thought this would be so easy.

Things I did to get rid of all that excess weight: less food, less beer (one Christmas Leffe per day), no wine or other alcohol, and lots of cycling: 23 hrs on the trainer, 6 hrs on the mountain bike.

And of course there was this bet with my kids: 15 months ago I bet with them that I would lose 15 kg in 15 months. And just when I thought I was not going to make it, you came up with your 10 pounds challenge. So Fatty, thank you very much for helping me and giving the last push. My kids won’t like it and I will remind them of this bet each time when they will have to mow the lawn in 2011, while I’m lounging in a comfortable chair.

Should I be a winner of one of the nice prizes, you won’t need to ship it to Belgium as I will be skiing the next two weeks in Colorado (a first for our family). So just send me an e-mail and I will give you the exact address.

So, once more, thank you for this challenge and thank you for the blog this year. I wish you and your family all the best for 2011 and hope you will continue to make us laugh (and sometimes cry) with the excellent writing.

I’m sure I’ll gain about 4 pounds back in the next two days, but my New Year’s weight loss resolution will be far less daunting this year thanks to this jump-start. So I’ve already won. Thanks, Fatty. And Merry Christmas.

I am not sure this counts but I watched my wife eat a wickedly good turkey bacon avacado sandwich and fries knowing I had about 2lbs to lose, I had half a 5hour energy for dinner, yum. Then last night I put a game in the xbox and road on the trainer until I had .3 lbs to go then I road some more. Went to bed a bit dehydrated and cranky. Got on the scale this morning, smiled. Had a big glass of water and a bagel… but damnit I really want a bacon avacado turkey sandwich with fries.

Few to no snacks for me (a bit difficult when you’re home all day) just a bowl of cereal for lunch and 30-60 minutes on the trainer 5 nights a week. Way to go Fatties! Big George – .4 lbs. today is still totally doable – fasting and working out!!

    3. 10.5 lbs
    4. That was 22 days of pure torture. Quit drinking booze, downsized the eating (by a lot the last week, I’m soooooo hungry!), spent 74 minutes on the eliptical a day (20 in the morning and 54 after work), 120 situps a day (30 morning, 30 after work) and 40 pushups a day (20 morning, 20 after work), lots of water and coffee, no snacking and no sweets. Hope to keep it up somewhat after this, probably not quite so intense though (hope to get down to around 115 lbs). That was a lot of hard work. I’m so proud I could cry! Thank you so much Fatty for getting me off my butt to do this! I feel absolutely amazing now! I’m wearing clothes today that I haven’t worn in at least 4 years! YAY!!!

I attribute my weight loss to staying on track for breakfast and lunch, which usually sets me up for eating a reasonable dinner. Also, avoiding the stacks and plates and baskets and bundles and boxes of Christmas cookies that arrived in my office from clients on a daily basis was certainly necessary.

Frankly I am frustrated, for last night we celebrated xmas with my inlaws, and I kicked them out of my house after dinner so we didn’t have to serve the pecan pie sitting on the counter. I was kind enough to invite them for lunch today to go back after the pecan pie after my weigh in. Maybe with .1 lbs to spare I could have had a sliver. I had even taken Thursday off from work, since I weighed 235.2 yesterday, and figured I would need to hit the bike and sauna for an least hour each and maybe do two a days to get the 10lbs. Now I am just sitting here dreaming of what Fatty is going to send post xmas, since this is the only gift I am going to get. My wife and I decided we are not exchanging gifts this year, and as a guy I am sure that isn’t going to work out well for me. At least I lost 10lbs, bring on the pecan pie.

The biggest thing I have to attribute my success to is stress. My father-in-law (who has been more a father to me than my own dad), is in his final days of a losing battle to prostate cancer. He is the reason I joined Livestrong, and the reason I relate so well to your own loss. At this time, he may – or may not make Christmas. Not a great way to lose weight, but there you go.

Okay! So… I worked out a lot.. my trainer arrived and I did a serious couple of hours a week on it, in addition to my usual commuting and meandering around. I worked my way up to being in the saddle waaaay longer than I ever have. And I ate the same stuff everyday: One packet of oatmeal and a glass of chocolate soymilk for breakfast. Enormous salad and a cup of soup for lunch. Chicken, lettuce, and colby jack on wheat with another cup of soup for dinner, and some sort of sensible snack when I got home from school.

I also ate none of the holiday cookies I baked. Well. Okay. Four of them. But compared to the dozen I usually eat to “test” the batches, that’s nothing.

Also I spent the last three days eating NO carbs and then hit the trainer hard to see if I could do some quick burn. Carbs are stored with water, so get rid of the carbs and the body ditches the water… I think. I stopped drinking anything at 9pm when I was .4 over and then went to bed. Woke up? Way under. :)

    4. This was accomplished with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. I didn’t “diet”, per-say, but rather just ate healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, and averaged 4,000 calories burned in the gym each week. I used a combination of strength training, elliptical cardio, and RPM (spinning) classes. There were even a couple of splurges in there with a pizza/beer night, holiday party, and a few fast food meals.

Thank you Fatty for creating this challenge. Because of this I am leaner, faster, and stronger than I have ever been in my entire life. I can’t tell you how excited I am for the 2011 biking season, complete with my first “100 Miles to Nowhere”!

    4. How I did it:
-Lots of lean protein foods (mainly egg whites, turkey, and/or Muscle Milk).
-Non-meal snacking was greatly reduced and after dinner snacking was almost completely eliminated.
-Plenty of Exercise. Alternating days between zone 3/4 workouts and zone 2 workouts.
-But the biggest thing I did was to record my weight every day! I have always found that recording (And graphing) my weight every day helps keep me honest. If I miss a day of recording my weight, 9 times out of 10 my weight will increase the next time I weigh myself. It’s not always fun….but neither is being fat.

Thanks Fatty for helping me jumpstart my weight loss!

As an impartial person to this challenge (not participating), are the awards randomly selected from the participants, or only those that lost the 10 pounds?

In January I weighed my self and to my dismay I weighed in at 240lbs. At that point I knew that I had to do something. By June I was at 197lbs which was the lightest I’d been in years. However that all changed in August. My father got sick and went into the hospital and in October he passed away. During all that time my excersise took a back seat and as a result the pounds started creeping back on me. So Fatty I thank you for putting this contest on and giving me the jump start I needed to get back on track once again. Good luck and Happy Holidays to all.

    4. Any special thing you did to get to that loss of ten pounds: I told people that I had entered a weight loss contest. I used this same approach when I successfully gave up deserts on July 15, 1995–I knew that peer pressure and the need to avoid a public fail would motivate me more than the random plate of cookies, brownies, or other sweets calling my name.

Tactically, I went strong early, with portion control, nothing between meals, and lots of spinning. I surprised myself at several parties, using location to help me avoid temptation–I’d nurse a light beer or two at a spot out of reach of goodies. Then, towards the end, I went into maintain mode with a long night spin followed by a hard morning spin to give myself a cushion (or lack thereof!). Here’s my weight loss profile.

Fatty, I’ve been wondering how you’ll duplicate this next year. Advance notice allows people to really overdo it at Thanksgiving and pack on some relatively easy to shed poundage. Even if it can’t be replicated, though, cheers to you for thinking this up. I’ve never felt better (well, I’m 45, let’s just say that I can’t remember feeling better) and am well-poised to exit these holidays no worse than I entered them on Turkey Day.

    Happy holidays everyone!

Oh well, it’s better than not losing. This includes a trip to Disneyland for a work-related conference, holiday parties twice this week, and Mexican last night (I knew it wouldn’t help, but it sounded so good). I have been eating healthier for breakfast and avoiding McDonalds. Would you believe we have a McDonalds in the hospital where I work? Conveniently it is on the end of the building 4 floors below the cardiology clinic. I have to say I’d rather have the extra weight than the stomach flu, though.

First of all, thank you!! I couldn’t have done it without your motivation! I didn’t do anything special, except limit my calories to about 1,200-1,300 calories per day. I’ve also been making a real effort to get fast for TT’s next year, so I’ve been spending a lot of tough miles on the trainer. It also helped that I had a coinciding goal to reach 150 as my race weight! I did crank the heat up in the house and not drink on the trainer yesterday, and only ate 2 bananas, 2 100 cal. Yogurts, and 2 kids granola bars yesterday. I quit eating and drinking by 6:00PM. I fully expect to gain a couple back as this was pretty drastic, but I’ll be good again soon! I look forward to meeting you in July as I attempt my first century as part of Team Fatty 2011!
    Thanks again, and Merry Christmas!!!

P.S. I got to know dark leafy greens (kale, chard, mustard greens, spinach) can take a whole bunch of space in the fridge and almost none on my plate!

I ate plenty of McD’s salads and Jared’s sandwiches at Subway instead of real meals. The last week or so I cut out sugar.

I don’t recommend such a quick loss because I didn’t have much energy and now feel like a cold is coming on.

But it felt great and was very encouraged when I saw 190 for the first time in years.

Heck ya! I worked out at most twice a day, watched everything I ate, and weighed it’s nutritional value. This time of year was brutal. Once the mindset of all the workouts was there, it was easy to say “no” to the overwhelming office sweets/empty calories. However, I did have a few cookies, dark chocolate covered almonds and pretzels…very little just to keep the craving away…we are only human! Oh yeah…only four beers total since this began. YIKES! I’m going to keep it up though…I owe my body that much and couldn’t be happier in the direction I’m going!

Have a wonderful Holiday season everybody and be safe!

Loss of 12lbs, I am happy with that for the effort I put in.

I followed the Daily Plate on Livestrong.com and tracked my 1200 calories per day religiously. I thought I would have lost a couple more this week so far but I have come down with a chest cold and I don’t think I am eating enough! I’d love the BKB socks, if you’re taking requests!

  113. Comment by Sara | 12.23.2010 | 10:41 am

    1. 158.2 lbs
    2. 148.2 lbs
    3. 10.0 lbs (although, I did re-weigh myself a couple of times and the scale said 148.0, then 148.4, then 148.2 again – I’m counting it!)
    4. Used the LiveStrong MyPlate website religiously, which meant, for me, limiting my calories to less than 900 each day! Unless, of course, I worked out – that gets added to your daily allowance. (For the record, I felt faint most days!)

Thank you, Fatty, for having such a crazy idea. For the past 6 years, I haven’t been able to find the motivation within myself to do this, but for the chance to win one of your give-away water bottles? Who could turn that down?! :)

My main approach was to track everything on FitDay as much as possible. Just seeing the calories and everything I put into my body made it easy to focus. And, it was kind of a pain to enter everything so I ate less so that I didn’t have to type… yes, I’m lazy like that!

I woke up this morning and couldn’t believe how close I was. I skipped breakfast and hopped on the bike trainer. I purposely forgot to fill up a water bottle for a little extra help. After a short ride I jumped back on the scale and it read 150.8. Rather than chance it, I ran in to the office to post my weight. As I eat some breakfast now I’m sure I’m back up over 150.8 but you never said how long I had to lose 10lbs. :)

The first 6lbs were pretty easy to lose. Just eat less and exercise more. VERY hard to do as all of my coworkers like to bring in holiday goodies. The last 4 in 4 days was a bit challenging. I cut WAY back on food (and beer) and increased workouts. I probably cut back a bit too far on food so I’ll likely be destroying any piece of meat that gets sat in front of me in the next 24 hours.

Thanks for the motivation. Even if I gain it all back in the next week or so I’ll be at a much better number than if I wouldn’t have started your challenge.

As a side note, my Fiance is so excited this is over that she can’t wait to have a REAL meal with me. She’s as skinny as a rail but still eats whatever she wants, making this even harder than it should have been. :)

Math and accountability – I am a 6′4″ man, down from 290 lbs in July of 2009. . The weight tends to come off for a couple months, then I level out for a couple, then it comes off again. It is true that the last 30 is the hardest

Here’s the problem. This isn’t my body refusing to lose weight, it is my mind getting tired of the most basic “chore” of weight loss, which is discipline.

Luckily I am extremely competitive. My competitive nature outweighs most everything in life, apparently even my drive to eat well during the holidays.

When you posted this challenge, with all the cool prizes it was just the kick in the pants I needed to get me in weight loss mode. See, for me it is 99% mental and 1% physical.

I figured that if I blew away the goal, as well as had the best documented weight loss (there is no making numbers up when your scale posts automatically to the internet) it would improve my chances. And if it didn’t I would lose weight anyways so it is a win win.

What is weight loss mode for me? (what did I do that was special)

First thing I did was continue what I have been doing this past year and a half, which is inputting my daily calories into dailyburn. This is an app just like livestrong, or trainingpeaks food tracker. There is no differentiating factor between these to me, it is just I have been using dailyburn since they were a little startup called gyminee and I have all my data there.

The second thing I did was continue to weigh in every morning on my withings scale. In the past when I would slip out of weight loss mode I would “forget” to log my weight manually into spreadsheets and dailyburn. Since I picked up the withings scale this summer every morning when I hop on it uploads to both it’s own site, and dailyburn. That way if I have a bad couple days I can see the daily affect.

The best thing about this is that there is no hiding from your weight. It is there, staring you in the face. It doesn’t matter if you ignored logging it.

The third thing I did was modify my caloric intake. to be at minimum 1000 calories below my basal metabolic rate (BMR). In the past I had been hovering at 500 cal deficit. The problem was either that I was under estimating my portions, or over estimating my BMR. Either way I hadn’t been losing much weight.

The fourth thing I was modifying my caloric intake while on the bike. I had done a bunch of double centuries and brevets this summer and fall. During the “race” portion of the year I was doing some very intense training. So while I was on the bike I would replace calorie in for calorie out so my batteries would be recharged for the next days workout.

The problem was, that it is no longer the “race” period and I was still fueling on the bike like I was riding hard. This was even though I was doing long and steady “base” workouts.

When I realized this I did some napkin math and figured that I was burning 1/2 fat and 1/2 glycogen in my zone 2 workouts and only started replacing 1/2-1/4 of my calories burned on the bike. I have been riding the ragged edge of bonk on many of my rides, but it has been paying with some significant weight loss.

The fifth thing I did was to schedule some aerobic activity every day. I had my normal cycling workouts 3-4 days a week. I then walked at least 2 miles on the days I wasn’t riding. Every little bit helps. What I ended up with was 15.432 lbs lost without any dehydration tricks, or other craziness.

Thanks Fatty, I wouldn’t have dropped this weight if you hadn’t have posted the challenge.
Now if you would post another challenge for the last 12 lbs I have to lose (before 8% body fat) that would be AWESOME

    –Colin

This just hit in the midst of trying to get from 345 to 250 or so (from a year ago to next year). Seeing things start with a ‘28′ then, narrowly, a ‘27′ have been exciting moments for me. For this, I’ve mostly been skipping meals when I’m not hungry, spending more time in the gym, eating healthier when I do eat, etc. I really need to spend more time on a bike, though.

The secret to my success, Moderation. Cereal for breakfast, moderate lunch (half the time is was a Costco weightloss shake), trying not to eat too much at dinner, and being antisocial at parties. The antisocial part is going to the room furthest from the bufffet/desert/snacks table and staying there. Not surprisingly, there aren’t a lot of people in that room, but those that are there are certainly chatty. I also tried to avoid salt the last two days to make sure I hit my goal. I’ll be off the wagon for a few days and then climb right back on. Brunch at the Homestead on Christmas day will be enjoyed in it’s full, bacony, hollandaise bejeweled goodness. Gotta start thinking about the Tour De South in May and I’m not hauling all 225 of me up to Brian Head, looking for something more like 195.

    How did I do it?

No regular soda except when no other choice allowed or I forgot, this happend twice total since the start. Water Water Water, for the first week all I drank was water with a mix of Coke Zero in the morning to stave off the headache that usually follows a sudden drop in caffination.

Mentally counting calories. English muffin with some light buttering was a good breakfast and I saved my major eating for the evenings because my work schedule keeps me up until midnight or later. (no not the taco bell drive through.)

Avoid the word Buffet, and or Buffett. One requires way too much food to be consumed at competition like levels and the other has a song about cheese burgers.

Any special thing you did to get to that loss of ten pounds: I swear I didn’t blood dope, I still attest it was tainted meat (and associated gravy). Actually? Just eliminated soda, chips, no seconds, smaller portions, embraced the “I’m still kinda hungry feeling”, increased gym time a bit. I’m still going to blame the French media for something, it’s what all the cool people do.

    4. Any special thing I did to lose the weight? I thought I’d get more time in on the mountain bike, but Southern California decided to bring the year to a close with HUGE amounts of rain. Got to admit, I lost the last two pounds on the trainer this morning. It will be back by dinner, I am sure….but it still counts! I really would love to sport those new wheels!

    4. I ate way smaller portions of everything, waived off every cookie plate dumped in the lunch room, no snacks after dinner, hardly any beer at holiday parties, lots of water, and jogged almost every day at lunch. It wasn’t fun but totally doable. I feel like losing weight between Thanksgiving and Christmas is equivalent of making it in New York: if you can make it here you can make it anywhere. I plan to drop down to about 175 for the start of road cycling season.

    Starting weight: See below
    Week 1: No change
Week 2: Lost +/- 10 pounds from starting weight
Week 3: lost 12 pounds total
Final weight in: Lost 12 pounds. I am convinced I have actually lost more but we had popcorn (no butter) last night when we went to see True Grit and I bet I am retaining water.

Starting weight? I said on Day 1 that I was too embarrassed to post my starting weight (despite all the brave souls who did so). If that disqualifies me, so be it. In my defense, if the contest was really about losing the 10# before Christmas (versus public humiliation), then I nailed it. :-) If it was about “coming out” then I remain a miserable failure.

How I lost – I have tracked every freaking morsel that entered my mouth on sparkpeople.com, and when in doubt, I rounded UP on the estimated calories.

Whether or not you decide I can be eligible for prizes, thank you for doing this awesome contest. For whatever reason, you/this contest helped tip me over mentally back into “healthy eating mode” and now I am totally psyched to continue my downward progression – even over the holidays.

Merry Christmas to you and all of the Team Fatty peeps! See ya in Davis!

    Not to be cynical, but…

No freaking way this many people lost over 10 lbs in this short of time during this time of year.

I’m sure many of you did, but no way THIS many.

Santa’s watching, folks, and knows who’s being naughty.

    1. Start = 186.6
    2. Current = 175.8
    3. Loss = 10.8! Huzzah!
    4. Strategy = eat very little, exercise more. Really, that was it. It sucked, but it worked. That, and sweating out approximately 2 lbs this morning before my official weigh-in. Whatever. 2 lbs lost in water weight still count.

Dude, this was rough. The local office kitchenette has, for the past few days, had these delicious white-chocolate-peppermint-sugar cookies. Only my potentially unreasonable competitiveness kept me away. However, now that I have my official number, I shall commence making up for lost time/treats.

Thanks for the motivation to lose (a legitimate) 8 lb of chub (and 2 lb of water). Much appreciated!

    3. I lost the weight my eating normal and trying not to snack much. But that trip to Atlanta with 24 hrs of driving and eating out killed it for me.

If I wanted the last 2 pounds I could hit the trainer for 2 plus hours this afternoon. But, I need to take my daughter shopping for my wife and I think that’s more important . Still, heading in the right direction again and I bet I can bet to 212 by my b-day a month from now. Next week has 4 days of X-country skiing in it and that will help a lot.

Not that losing weight is a bad thing (eating healthy and regular exercise are great, especially during the holidays when most people are pigging out and sitting in their car), but has anyone stopped to think that this is a totally unhealthy way to lose weight?

  157. Comment by oheckler | 12.23.2010 | 12:21 pm

I got up early this morning because I knew the results weren’t going to be good ( weighed myself last night and still had 2 lbs to go). Sure enough 157.6. I still needed to lose 1.4 lbs. So no breakfast and out the door for a quick run. Well I don’t really run so it ended up being a run/walk of about two miles. Pre-shower weigh in….. 157. Damn. Looks like still no breakfast and I’m taking my scale to work. Well after three tries (still no breakfast) I just came back from the handicap stall, which is the only stall large enough for me to go full commando, and weighed in at my target weight, 156.2 lbs!
Now I am walking across the street to the deli and ordering a breakfast burrito larger than my head. Hey, you never said we had to keep it off just make the weight at some point today.

    Starting weight: 166.2
    Final weigh in: 156.2
Total temporary weight loss: 10 lbs

    What I did:
I packed my lunch most every day (probably the biggest difference maker, we eat out a lot in my office), I ate sensible portions and I actually rode the trainer.

    Today’s weight: 227.8

    Loss: 13.2

I’m easy, just the water bottles or a jersey (largest size possible please, I’m still 227 for goodness sake!)

What I did: I really counted calories and hit the gym (exercycle mostly) or got out on my bike for short rides. I would eat cereal for breakfast, approximately 200 calories, and then exercise burning off 200-300 calories (according to the counters). So I would pretty much be at zero calories for the day after that. Then a sensible lunch in the 200-300 calorie range, a granola bar or so for a snack, again about 200 calories, and then just eat a sensible portioned dinner, since I would have nearly 1500 calories “leftover” for the day — based on the 2,000 calories a day to maintain weight.

So the eat right and exercise thing the doctors preach really works. Thanks for the push to get going, I’ve been wanting to hit the diet and exercise hard again but have just not been motivated.

Now I can take it easy through the next few days of the holidays and not worry about weight and working out (no time with all the family) and just not over-indulge on the snacks and I’ll come our ready to hit it again next week.

And, I did make my donation today, but if I win I probably won’t be able to do one of the trips, but we’ll see. Just wanted to donate and do some good for someone who needs it at this time of year.

Like others it was portion control, eliminating the donuts, junk food snacks, and late night eating. Lots of riding, for this time of year. Like my SoCal neighbors, it’s been raining here in the North, but seriously, that makes for a fun and rewarding ride. Steam rising off your shoulders suggests you’re gaining, or losing, something.

Gift to self: A new scale so we two (sic) can get those .x lbs the others are claiming. Looking forward to trying to recognize ‘Fattys’ at Davis.

These weights are at night w/jeans and heavy sweater which is at least 5 lbs, so I’m really only 2 lbs above my ‘normal’ weight (should have weighed this morning sans clothes). I happened to re-join the gym right when this contest started, so attribute the loss to intense Spin classes, yoga, and the discovery that I can indeed run on a treadmill. And a winter craving for vegetables over those heavy Fall carbs

I forced myself to not eat anything after 7PM and increased my time on the rollers to 90 minutes rather than 60. I mistakenly cut back on my water intake for the last few days. 3. Total Loss = 10 lbs
    4. Eat half the calories your BMI calls for, ride bike as much as possible, do eat lean protean, do not eat any refined carbs, sleep 8-9 hours a night (you lose more weight when you are asleep)do not drink adult beverages, do drink lots of water, except for the last day then go to gym wear long sweats ride spin bike for 1.5 hours, have one of the trainers in the gym become so concerned they try to get you to drink :) weigh yourself before hydrating. Works every time!

So, I didn’t quite make it the first time I weighed this morning (missed it by half a pound); but by not drinking any water this morning or eating any breakfast, I lost that pesky half a pound by 11am. I will go run my usual three miles on the treadmill this afternoon; however I’m very glad I didn’t have to lose 4 pounds on the last day!!

Thank you Fatty for such a great and inspirational contest! Thank you too to my beautiful bride, above in the contest, a devoted reader of yours, and also successful in her efforts to lose 10 lbs – woohoo! We’ve been slipping bit by bit on our fitness since the kids came along 7 years ago – even though we’ve continued to ride and ride with them quite a bit, but this past year to 18 mos has really taken it’s toll on us, in a variety of ways, but physically as much as anything. This has been the greatest thing to kick us into gear to get back to our healthy lifestyle that we much prefer! Even if I did have to endure being shaken awake at 5:30 in the mornings to the exclaim of “I lost x lbs!, check out how skinny I’m looking” :)

Special thing to lose the 10 pounds: Cut back on the soda (very hard for me to do). Eat better and exercise like crazy (I think I’m officially addicted)! Bonus: Ride two hours on the stationary trainer, with no fan, no water, and wearing an all black riding kit while listening to the iPod.

Ran 3-6 miles 3x/week and watched my calories like a hawk. I am happy with the loss but could not budge past 180 – I guess that’s the plateau you hear so much about.

CONGRATULATIONS Everyone who commented , some failed to make the weight but succeeded in their honesty and i hope Fatty sets aside some prizes to reward them ! Looking at the comments these past several weeks has been entertaining and visiting some of their blogs rewarding.
Those who made the weight loss generally lost about 5-7 % of their starting weight so there is a good chance for them to hold on to most of their acheivement. Diet has contributed to their success and additional training regimes could be turned into New Year Resolutions thus continuing the good work todate but more importantly enhancing their lifestyle.
AS i stated at the outset i was already in the minimum weight range and whether i ski tour, ride the trainer or work the rower i have to keep topping up to avoid dehydration. Coming back to the house after 2hrs slogging the skis uphill i am saturated and that is even after regular liquid consumption during the exercise.
Whether jonw9, Oldchainrig or nh_joe agree, my take is that All of you deserve a BIG PAT ON THE BACK !!

HAPPY FESTIVE SEASON to you All.

I didn’nt quite make it but the effort so far has been a success, none the less. If I could count the 2.5 I lost the week prior the start of the contest, I would be over the 10 pound mark. I am on a mission to keep going until there is a significant reduction. To that end I hired a nutritionist. The plan so far has been to greatly increase my vegetable intake and reduce my consumption of high fat cheese. I have also been working on building strength so the scale does not tell the whole story. The fact I can wear jeans that I haven’t worn for three years, is reward enough.

Enjoy the holidays all but don’t over induldge.

There’s (almost) an interesting sociology/physiology experiment here. By my count, through 3:22p, there were 134 people who made it and 62 who didn’t–call that 2:1. I suspect that there are a number of people who didn’t make it who opted not to post, which probably puts the ratio closer to the 50/50 sense that I got from mid-contest check-ins. I say “almost” above since there’s no way to verify actual versus reported, but knowing the Fatty crowd, I’d say there are few who fudged (pun intended).

Made it, but not by much — nothing but coffee and a banana today. Still pretty proud, as I’ve been in the weight room about 3 times as much as I’ve been on the bike so I’m definitely putting on muscle while losing fat. Diet-wise I’m doing the primal blueprint thing, no bread or pasta, low carbs overall, and getting rid of all the sugar and booze I can. I’ve really only been on track about 80% of the time, though, which is a testament to how well that diet works — I made (and ate) Christmas cookies last night for Pete’s sake!

This is the lowest I’ve been in about 2 years, and though the next 48 hours are probably going to be less than pretty I’m keeping this going until I’m at least under 210.

Thanks Team Fatty, couldn’t have done this alone and certainly never could have stayed good until this close to the holidays!

Wow! I wasn’t sure I was going to make it with all the cookies, etc in the house. But, the approach of coffee with soup and salads helped greatly as did the daily rides and nighttime shopping which kept me out of the kitchen and the snack zone.

Even better then the weight is the fact that I’ve taken 1.5 inches off the waist. I still have a long way to go to my final goal weight of 180 but I’m on a great track thanks to Fatty and the team!!

Lost 9 the first week alone and then went up 4, this morning still had 2 to lose. Clearly dehydration and starvation did the trick as I rode the rollers for only 40 minutes today.
Now… to eat and drink myself back go failure!

  262. Comment by jwm | 12.23.2010 | 4:36 pm

I need a judge on this one, I’ll post honestly. You can decide.. (aka, “stupid scale”).

weight the morning of the post (with dehydration) : 215
Posting official weight (at night) : 215
10 min after posting 215 as my start weight : 219
    Yesterday’s weight : solid/fair 208 sans dehydration.
Today’s weight after 9 mile run and some pretty good hunger pains : 206.
    Official weight loss: 9 lbs
Submitting that I really lost an honest 10-12

based on: my orig weight was probably much closer to 219, I have history that shows the 215 morning of is a fluke. And while 206 will certainly bounce to 208 once I drink some water and eat a bit.. it is the 10lb kick start I was looking for.

    It’s up to the judges.

In any case, I’d like to thank FC for setting this up. From the orig post I was thinking “no way will I make 10lbs, but it’s a good thing to try”.

Additionally, my friend at work said “heck yeah, 10 lbs is possible. Get on it!” Thanks to him.

I was eyeballing 2011 knowing I had to do something. Every little bit counts and I’m grateful for the shove.

how: i didn’t think on Monday I would be able to hit the goal, but did a major limit on the food intake, cut my regular soda to 1x day and hit hot yoga a few times including last night so I think I sweat off a couple pounds, , ran and then hit the trainer for an hour every night. that and i used your trick and I leaned back on the scale – leaned forward on the scale – sucked in etc. and there it was… 10 pounds gone! I’m sure by tomorrow night I’ll be up by 2, but I’m ok with that. Thanks Fatty!

Hey FC (sounds easier than Fatty)
    Starting 203.?
    Today 193.4
    Loss 10.?
A few things I did differently that seemed to help, first I weighed myself all the time. I said no to pretty much everything, and I trained hard. The first 8 just kind of happened, then a hard one, then no breakfast, some coffee and get on the bike with no liquid for the final lb. I would not have done this if it weren’t for your well timed challenge. Now my goal, no my PLAN, is not to waste this accomplishment during the holidays. Keep saying, “no thank you,” and taking less.
    Thanks,

What I did: Promised myself no matter what, I would do 60 min. of exercise a day and finish the contest, steel cut oats and greek yogurt for breakfast, a very high fiber but low cal lunch, and then a homemade Pita Pizza pretty much every night (no more than two snacks a day too). Had some bad slip ups. First weekend I had the most amazing Mexican dinner after a week of stringent dieting (causing me to temporarily gain 5 lbs). Considered giving up right after that, but glad I kept my promise. Honestly, I didn’t think I could successfully do this. Thanks for the motivation.

    4. Basically I exercised more and ate less. Damn that was simple. Ha. More specifically, I was mindful of portions, had more salads and vegetables, limited the carbs, limited the amount of alcohol or soda, had some high fiber energy bars, avoiding going to restaurants, and ate and drank reasonably at parties. A new wrinkle for me in exercise was to go for good long walks after dinner and to have some days where I worked out twice. I was prepared to cycle it out in the gym if needed today , but I’m in Vermont this week and there’s snow, and I was so close that I knew going for a cross-country ski would be enough. It was! I’m really happy losing 10 instead of gaining 5. Thanks, Elden. Next goal, going south of 220!

My special secret is keeping a detailed calorie journal. It works like a charm. If you have weight to loose, keep your calories in at least 1000 less that you need. You will drop weight (not water) like no body’s business. Started this in Sept and have lost 2 lbs a week like clock work. In order to loose the 10 lbs for this challenge, I lowered my calorie intake from 2500 a day to 2000, with the measurable results above. Thanks! I’m feeling great!

Avoid refined foods. Anything with white flour or sugar in it is off the list-that cuts out a lot of foodstuff right there. I didn’t get to ride as much as I wanted so I had to resort to some dehydration antics the last couple days.

How I did it: I have to give you all the credit Fatty, for the most part it was your meal plan (The mustard/mayo mix spread is too awesome for words) – the only time I really felt hungry was at night and that is just something I’ve got to get used to. So, the Fatty Meal Plan(TM), a lot of water, no seconds for dinner (portion control), and added workouts on the trainer and at the gym. To be honest I never thought I had a shot at making the ten. Thanks Fatty for the motivation, I’m now the lightest I’ve been in ten years. It’s time to set some new goals and stick with the modified diet. After the holidays of course.

Total weight loss – 13.0 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!
I rode when I could, and walked also, but mainly it was no soda, the pastries, junk food and fast food. More veggies and a little less bread!!!!!!!

Well, I didn’t make it. Starting weight 233.8 ending weight 230.6. Total loss -3.2. Had big plans for the week but my wife decided to go into labor at 3 in the morning on Monday. I didn’t eat anything the whole time in the hospital except a diet dew and a twix (healthy I know) and have been eating fast food since then so I’m happy that I don’t weigh more than when I started. Would have loved to win something but maybe Fatty will give me a baby present! She would love something from that sweet bag o’ swag! Thanks for the motivation though. Better luck for the next contest.

    My repost entry.
Only ate 1 bagel (with peanut butter & coffee jam) with 1 cuppa coffee for breakfast after weighing.
Only needed to lose 1.623 pounds. My scale a balance beam weighs in kilograms. I didn’t eat anything all day, drank 3 cups of cranberry juice.
Headache started about 3PM, Alas it is a dark, cold and stormy night, rain with wind and people driving like crazy so the commute home I used bus/bike option just over 11 miles vs 27 miles(a major bonk)by bike alone. I still got quite wet but not chilled due to short distance and only 1 small hill.
I opened the door ready for my weigh-in and my dog had other ideas and needed to go out…NOW.
It was a short walk due to rain/wind. Home again to discover that said dingo chewed off the plastic cover from the scale leaving a cold metal surface to stand on with bare feet…couldn’t get the scale to function properly…maybe some springs were wacked too. I’m sure Zillah(dingo) was only trying to help.
So my bottom line stands at 8.377 pounds lost wo method to confirm actual weight. I can laugh about this, besides she said she was sorry but justified.

I have a lot more to drop and this is an excellent start to the New Year. I just need to continue portion control and more time in the saddle.

Portion control and upped the cardio. It’s strange how it works that by doing the exact opposite of what put the pounds on in the first place actually worked.

    4. I cut out processed foods, ate the same things for the last 2 weeks: oatmeal with raisins & walnuts for breakfast. 3 egg whites with 2 turkey sausages, spinach, bell pepper & mushroom omelette made in microwave topped with salsa for lunch, and had banana protein shake for dinner. My plan to skip dinners the last 4 days didn’t work for me, I was famished and needed a recovery drink after working out. A big tall glass of protein shake fit the bill. 1 day cleanse was also a failure, I had no energy and was super grumpy, had to eat. This may be why I couldn’t lose 10. But I am extremely happy that I lost weight and now I hope to get to 125. Thank you so much for the motivation, I needed this.

I made it. It feels so good to be going in the right direction.

The way that worked for me was to switch from riding the flats to riding the hills, I set my bike up as a hill climbing machine (50/34 up front 11/36 in the rear) it works great, no excuses now, only problem is with the engine.

I also have been hitting the weights in the gym, waking up my sleeping muscles so they can burn some calories. I’ve been swimming and starting to run on the treadmill, possible Tri in my distant future.

I now eat to either fuel my workout or to recover from my workout. I am staying so busy with all these workouts, trying to do as many of them in one day that I can, that I run out of time in the day and I can’t eat as much. But hey at least it is working for me.

Thanks Fatty for the motivation, and a prize would be great.

    P. S. If I win the tour of Italy with Andy I think I could lose some more.

Didn’t make it to 10, but progress is progress, and for a month where I was superbly stressed and spent far, far too much time sitting and working, any downward movement is a good thing. Plus, $20.00 to start the new Livestrong challenge for those two last pounds, so winners all around!

What did I do? Made breakfast & saved half of it for lunch, stopped bemoaning the arrival of winter and dragged myself to the gym instead of pretending that it might be warm enough to ride outside tomorrow, no holiday baking, and generally did not eat as much salty food, cheesy food or junk. I’m also slowly learning to like coffee that is less sweet. Slowly. Very slowly.

Thanks for the inspiration and camaraderie! Congrats to all!

Seemed the honest thing to do, and since I’ve still got a way to go couldn’t handle next weeks weigh-in if I took drastic measures this week :)

I began to enter the foods I was eating into a daily log, which was awful to see, but great ultimately. Boy did I need to change things! As with my last report, my weight may not have gone down much, but I improved the food I ate and worked out a lot more. Unfortunately the extra workouts kicked my appetite up a notch. The good news is that the squish around my middle started to go away. Here’s to my consolidation – muscle weighs more than fat.

Not quite the ten pounds to meet the challenge, but pretty much spot on my goal. Mostly, that was during a month of little to no training, I didn’t want to eat like I was training 20 hours a week! So I didn’t pack on the weight I would normally have and I even lost a little. I kept weighing myself at at the gym (riding the stationary bike) every 15 minutes. Very thirsty and hungry! But now that I made it, time to gorge!!!!! Actually, once I hit the target on the scale, I took a loooong drink of water and refused to step back on the scale.

I had at least three binges (Xmas office party, retirement lunch), didn’t ride on the turbo trainer too much, and didn’t moderate my snacking or casual use of alcohol. I’m a new dad and pretty stressed out, my wife’s xmas present has been lost in the post, and I’ve been in danger of losing sight of what is important.

So thank you team fatty for helping me fight for a good cause, I didn’t lose 10lbs but I helped someone I don’t know a little.

Wishing you all a merry and peaceful Christmas.

Gutted not to make it. Heavy snow and Christmas parties put paid to early gains. Doubling efforts to lose weight after the holidays. Thanks for an awesome contest Fatty, even though I didn’t lose the 10 pounds I think I would have put on 10 pounds otherwise so secretly I am a winner!

    Happy Christmas to all.

Guess the five festive nights out did for me that and the non participation in the pre weight loss feeding frenzy that is Thanksgiving (bit of a head start there for some of us).

Congrats to all who managed to lose the 10 lbs, what an amazing result!

Gym now closed so no chance of losing those last 3 lbs…maybe next year.

    Have a great holiday all.

Want to add the story to my post:

At the last weigh in I still was 4.3 lbs too heavy, so I really forced me to diet. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I only had breakfast, a couple of apples and water. Couldn’t do any exercise anymore since I wasn’t on vacation and had to do a lot of christmas preparations. Was very VERY grumpy yesterday morning, but – miracle: only 1 lb to go! No problem. I had breakfast and stopped eating at 11 am. Then I drove through really bad snow for half of the day to be with my girlfriend and her family in the evening.

In the morning I was very sure that I made it: Lost 3.3 lbs in two and a half day, then ate practically nothing and drank very little yesterday. But then, bad surprise: exactly the same weight as yesterday morning – after a day of heavy starvation! What went wrong? Dammit, different scale! I went to interview the whole family and especially my girlfriend, did some very scientific calculations and decided that her parent’s scale shows exactly 1.01 lbs more than ours. That means I lost exactly 1.01 lbs since yesterday and lost, as posted, 10.01 lbs in total.

i sincerey hope Fatty is buying this one… I really enjoyed doing this no matter if I win something – thanks very much for the challenge, I never was so close to my race weight at this time of the year.

    Merry christmas from Germany

The bad news net loss was ZERO. The good news is that for the first time in 10 years I didn’t gain 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I broke my arm in two places and was put in a full arm cast just as the contest started. I consider the no gain a moral victory.

Ah~I didn’t make it, but I’m ok with this anyway. I know I could have restricted and lost the final five, but I used to ….have a problem with restricting and I promised myself I wouldn’t ever do that to myself again. So, I’m happy I lost 5lb and I didn’t lose it like how I used to lose weight, rather I ate enough and exercised. I’m proud of myself to say that it means a lot more to me than numbers on a scale.

Did a bunch of core work every day; didn’t burn too many calories, but made me feel better and kept me focused on my gut. Combined breakfast and lunch into brunch most days; basically just a late breakfast that would get me through to a mid-afternoon snack. Cereal for dinner about 1/2 the time.

This was really a great inspiration; December in VT is kind of a dark, tough month, with not enough snow for xc-skiing but enough to make riding outside difficult. Thanks for putting this together!

    Dear Fatty,

As you see I got almost the same idea, only a couple of weeks ahead of you. By this I’m not in any way implying that I somehow telepatically inspired you though.

As you also see it’s perfectly possible to lose weight in winter time being a biker and that even when you live up north. Without any indoors biking.

It’s also possible to accomplish all this w/o dehydrating yourself. Losing only fat and upping your overall water and muscle body composition percentage instead.

Only thing you need to do is count calories and stop eating when you reach your daily limit, which is somewhere around 2500 kcal for someone my size, body composition and age.

Finally, this approach makes it a lot easier to keep your new weight too.

    All the best!

Note to self…. after several weeks of eating very healthy and light, having dinner at Boudin that consisted of a sourdough breadbowl filled with beef chili and smothered in cheddar cheese is NOT (gastronomically speaking) a good idea. Especially when stuck at a very shopping mall afterward.

Travel the past four days has kept me from the gym, the scale, and from victory in this contest (not to mention internet access). I had lost 7 pounds before leaving town and doubt I lost the last three without working out or eating as responsibly these past few days. I am very happy with the loss, however and am in a much fitter place this winter than in years past as I’ve been logging serious miles on the treadmill and trainer and have become better acquainted with a feeling of hunger. I’ll definitely have the 10 off by new years!

Well, I only lost a couple pounds. For reasons i can’t explain (nothing bad), I’m unable to diet right now, at least not lose 10 lbs in that amount of time. However, it was fun and I did limit my snacking AND I didn’t eat nearly the amount of Christmas goodies I normally do so I won’t be heading to Kauai looking too bad. Congratulations to all those that did make their goal!

Merry Christmas to all the Fattys out there (pun not intended – hee!).

    End: 71.8 Kg (158.3 pounds)
    Lost: 4.2 Kg (9.3 pounds)

Considering I never thought I had a remote possibility of getting close to 10 pounds, I am pretty ecstatic with the result to be honest. I wanted my weight loss to be “real”, so I didn’t *do* anything apart from cut out sweets, snacks, seconds and alcohol. The main change was *actually* running instead of sitting on the couch thinking “I should go for a run” (or worse, browsing runnersworld.com – reading about running burns calories right?). The difference in how I feel on my runs hauling around 9.3 pounds less is amazing, and absolutely enough motivation to keep going. I’ve gone a bit wild and haven’t weighed myself since the 23rd though, and I won’t until I’ve spent a couple of days eating plenty of veggies and fruit (and rice to avoid the fiberrhea). Well done to all who made it to 10, and let’s stay healthy in the new year!

    Started at 178.5
Was at 172 a week ago when I got stuck in the Heathrow debacle and spent e best part of a week getting to Sydney. I haven’t weighed in again but now way this went down, so I’ll claim 172 for a Los of 6.5.

My favorite…the girl who had a baby in the middle of this!

I’m a 58 year old grandmother of three (long time long distance runner)…I hosted a cookie day in the middle of all of this and have to say that “making” the cookies wasn’t the problem! I’m glad to end the Christmas season 5 lbs lighter than I started and happy that so many have lost as much as we have. It would be interesting to get a total weight loss!

Let’s do the challenge next year, but let’s start the day after Thanksgiving!

  450. Comment by Barbara B | 12.25.2010 | 10:07 pm

BTW…I’ve noticed a common theme is not snacking late at night. I should have added this for me. It was really the major change for me as I’m already training as hard as I probably should (did add more weight training…but I have the girlie notion that this cause weight gain…but fantastic arms!)

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2011 for every one!

    12/20/10 -225
    Current weigh 12/23/10 -224.5
I did not make 10 pounds the by last weigh-in…
But, 9 pounds in a little over 3 weeks is not too bad.
    Current weigh 12/24/10 -222
As I mentioned before, my ultimate goal is to get below 200. 45 minutes and 9.32 miles on the indoor trainer just now. A balmy 55 degrees in the garage.
Merry Christmas to all. And, to all a good night.

Bummer that I didn’t lose 10, but I haven’t seen that number on the scale in an awfully long time, so thank you for the motivation!

    My husband did much better:
    starting weight for Phil: 237
    current weight for Phil: 226.2
    Loss: 10.8 lb
He did Weight Watchers, watched his portion sizes and played basketball 3 times a week. I’m proud of him for sticking with it this time!

It’s a Christmas miracle! I was at 190 when I left to go home a week ago, and ate like a pig (but skiied like a demon) for the past week. Thanks for the motivation, Fatty!

Done Deal! The stomach flu is better than marathon last minute sessions.

    Starting weight – 235.8
    Last weeks weight – 223.4
Current and final weight – 222.8
Total amount lost – 13.0 lbs!

Thanks, Fatty. Although the flu was most helpful, the 100 push ups sight was great and gave me something new. Plus, just having the contest help to keep an eye on things.

Post Christmas update: I’ve put back on 6 of the 10lbs that I lost. I guess this was the point though, I’m still at av overal negative.

Hope everyone had a great holiday season!

    FAIL.

I was on the road for the last two weigh-ins, which was good. Because when I travel, I snack. Lots.

I finally weighed in after the competition ended, only to find that I was pretty much right back where I started 172.2

I’ve been away from the FatCyclist blogsite for a while, so I’m a little late for the contest. I’m still inspired, however, by this challenge. I’m 5′10” and about 195 lbs now (not all muscle). I figure I need to lose a good 15 pounds before cycling season (around end of March up here in Ontario). Your contest gives me that much more inspiration.
