LT100 Racers: 3-Part Webinar from The Queen of Pain and Me

07.23.2015 | 12:53 pm

Rebecca Rusch — AKA The Queen of Pain — and I were recently talking about how the final few weeks before the Leadville 100 totally start consuming all your thoughts and time.

It can be a really intense and anxious time for people who have entered the race and dedicated pretty much all our waking moments to it for eight months or more.

We came up with what I think is a terrific idea:

What if we did a series of three webinars during this run-up to the race, designed to address the questions, challenges, and hopes Leadville 100 MTB racers all have on our minds?

And that’s what we’ve done.

Reba and I are teaming up to provide a free set of three webinars to help you get ready for the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race during these last few weeks before the event. These webinars are designed to help you finish faster, use the course to your advantage, and have the peace of mind that you haven’t left something important at home.

While free, these webinars do require you register, so be sure to sign up for each (and if you can’t attend live, don’t worry, they’ll all be recorded and uploaded for on-demand viewing both here and at http://www.rebeccarusch.com/leadvilleexperience/).

Knock Half an Hour Off Your Time: Top Ten Racing Tips (Wednesday, July 29, 6:00pm PT / 9:00 ET) Two weeks before the race last year, Reba started working with The Hammer to help her get her fastest time ever, knocking an incredible forty minutes off her previous best. These same strategies will work for you, whether you’re hoping to finish before the time cutoff or get the coveted big belt buckle. Click here to register.

Know the Course
(Monday, August 3, 6:00pm PT / 9:00 ET) Sure, you know about Columbine and Powerline, but there are tips and tricks you can use on every single section of the course to stay focused, fast, and safe. We’re going to talk through each part of the course, describing what to do, what to watch out for, and what your split times should be for common finish targets. Click here to register.

Final Checklists
(Monday, August 10, 6:00pm PT / 9:00 ET)
You’re on your way to Leadville. Don’t forget anything important! We’ll talk through the absolute essentials for you and your crew (if you have one), from bike to clothes to food to tools. We’ll also be providing actual checklists for you to use and adapt. Click here to register.

Reba and Fatty will be happy to take and answer your questions during these live webinars. We look forward to chatting with you soon!

Great! That will be very helpful. I can’t believe it’s just 3 weeks until the race, I am already a nervous wreck!

what are your thoughts on the new Stage Race fatty any desire to do it in the future? My least favorite part of Leadville was the checklists etc. so this should help people. As far as splits etc I had them memorized/taped to frame etc. then like Mike Tyson said – everybody has a plan until they get hit in the face..

@Frank, when it comes to becoming a nervous wreck, you really need to learn to peak closer to the event. That’s what I’m doing via equal parts denial and imagining that the course is as flat as The Netherlands … with a tailwind. You see, I may not be all that much on the bike, but when it comes to self-delusion, I’m top step of the podium.

@JeffD it WAS all downhill with a tailwind, but that might be hypoxia talking.

Fatty, I am so so sad to admit that I recently paid full price for a movie ticket to see the Minions movie (worst.movie.ever). If I had known about these upcoming webinars, I would have gladly paid a movie-ticket price to go to even one of those instead!

Which leads me to an idea:
What if people paid $5 per webinar that they wanted to see, and all proceeds went to WBR??

I’d do that in a heartbeat and file it under ‘entertainment’ in my monthly budget.

    Thoughts?

This is a great idea, and I am looking forward to the seminars. Unfortunately for me the checklist will become a ‘Things I need to purchase’ list because by the time that Webinar starts I will already be in Colorado. So here’s hoping that my pack list is quasi complete. I am so excited about my first Leadville 100 I can hardly wait.

Can the Friends of Fatty who are doing Leadville let us know who you are? I want to be able to check up on everybody to see how it goes. I loved doing Leadville and would go back and do it again but too many other races I want to do too. So I have to live vicariously through all of you!!

sounds good – I’m looking forward to the webinars. But first – did we miss a report of the Fireroad 100 inCedaar City?

@Jeff, I am just at the beginning of the nervous breakdown. That denial thing was ruined for me at my last race. I was struggling at the end and the cop who did the sweep told me it is “all downhill from here”. Let’s just say that he had a warped sense of humor…
@Bart, same here. I will use this webinar as a check list of things I still have to get on the following Tuesday.

@Corrine, I’m in for Leadville (my first).

Fatty, Sometimes pro riders switch bikes in the middle of the race because the road or climbing conditions change. I would love to see a post from you where you take the different segments of leadville and match with your favorite bike for the segment.

@Jeff and Frank. Leadville is easy as pie. The reports of it being hard are vastly over stated ;)

******Just keep telling yourself that. Cause everyone finishes Leadville and smiles for their pictures. I have proof: https://youtu.be/Vi7KkFLP4uk

  16. Comment by Eric | 07.24.2015 | 3:58 pm

Will there be a live attendance option for the third seminar for those of us already in Leadville by August 10th? I really appreciate these, as this is my first Leadville and I’m a little terrified. Thanks for doing them!

  17. Comment by davidh-Marin,ca | 07.24.2015 | 7:33 pm

We could have a ‘live’ audience participation at Fatty HQ with pie and brats. If that gets too large we move to the Opera House.

This comment has nothing to do with the topic at hand. However, TODAY I finally wore my new 2015 Team Fatty/WBR kit for the very first time. I did my longest ride of the year (so far) and it was at mile 75 when it hit me: I hadn’t squirmed, readjusted, stand-up to relieve pressure, nor any other thing you do when your hiney is uncomfortable…not once. Zero. These new DNS Cycling bibs (and their super-chammy) are IT! Fatty, good call on the premium chammy! I can’t believe what I’ve been missing! I now have a “luxury body” for the very first time! (sorry Dr. Lammler)….and it didn’t cost me 8 tanks of gas (well, diesel).

@Doug, loved the video!! A classy finish!! You first timers will do great!! my advice – swearing definitely helps when you are pushing up Powerline. Just do it in your head so you don’t offend others around you. Good luck to all the 1st timers and everybody else, too.

Any tips for those of us who live near sea level and could not talk his boss letting me work in Colorado for 6 weeks prior to the race would be appreciated!
