An Open Letter to World Bicycle Relief
Dear World Bicycle Relief,
I’m an easygoing guy. You know I am. Except when I’m racing, at which point I am absolutely not easygoing. But this is not my point.
Also, the fact that I am usually easygoing is not my point, either.
I’m just saying that, generally speaking, I’m easy to get along with. That’s all.
And as an easygoing person, I don’t really go in for throwing my weight around. Except when I feel like it, or when my MRSA flares up or I don’t get a good night’s sleep for some reason.
Very occasionally, however, I feel like I need to throw my weight around for a reason that has nothing to do with grumpiness or whatever.
This is one of those times.
Here’s what I have to say, WBR, so listen good:
I demand you make Carlos Perea a 2016 WBR Ambassador.
Why? I’ll tell you why.
Because he’s pretty much the best ambassador you’ll ever have. He believes in the work you do. He’s ridiculously nice. He’s bold, creative, and effective in his fundraising.
He’s happy to talk to people.
He is, more or less, your dream ambassador.
Just look at all the comments below (which I am sure will begin accumulating at a ridiculous rate as soon as I post this). Everyone agrees with me. Except that one guy, and nobody likes or agrees with that one guy anyway. Ignore that guy. That guy’s a troll.
Anyway, I think I’ve made my case. I look forward to you crowning Carlos (because I also think you should give Carlos a crown and make him King of All WBR Ambassadors).
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Kind Regards,
Fatty
PS: Anyone else who wants to apply, by the way, can click here to get started. And there can be more than one.

Couldn’t agree more, Fatty. Carlos is more excited about bikes than anyone I know is about anything in their lives, and he doesn’t hesitate to show it. He could be an ambassador in his sleep!

Carlos! Carlos! Carlos!
This message has not been approved (yet) by Carlos!

Carlos is my little brother. I’m proud to see his hobbies have morphed from ZBots and Micromachines (yup, remember those?) to biking and the outdoors. His intense passion for his hobbies, however, has not changed. And honestly, everything Fatty said is true. He really, truly cares about everything WBR is about, and is probably one of the nicest and easiest guys to talk to. You can’t ask for more than that, though Carlos does have so much more than that to offer!
Comment by Isaac | 01.13.2016 | 4:17 pm
Who’s gonna be that guy?
You know, the one who no one listens to? I’ll take one for the team.
Uh, you shouldn’t, uh… don’t pick Carlos, because… Because reasons. Yes, reasons. Reasons that would make him a terrible ambassador.
You have to listen to me, because I’m that guy, and I demand that my voice be heard!

Carlos is the bomb. I was in a training program with him several years ago that included several cyclists and he remans one of my favorite people from that time. As an ambassador myself for a women’s cycling program in NYC, I wholeheartedly endorse Carlos for his dedication, passion, and all around awesomeness.

Carlos for President. No, wait, wrong forum.
Failing that, Carlos totally should be one of your next WBR ambassadors – can’t think of a better choice!
Comment by NZ Ev | 01.13.2016 | 4:29 pm
Carlos is the main man to be the ambassador for WBR!!!!!
Comment by Jenni | 01.13.2016 | 4:34 pm
Carlos Perea is an absolutely perfect choice.
In fact, did you know Carlos Perea also means Replaces Oar? As in, a bicycle replaces oar(s) so people can ride bikes and not paddle to get things they need. Paddling in the middle of the African plains is a ridiculously ineffective way to get to school, or gather food. Carlos Perea is the natural choice.

One thing to say, Carlos is awesome!!
He will make a great ambassador!!
He loves bikes!!
OK I said I only have one thing to say but Carlos would be an asset to any fundraising organization!!
This is four things that I said. I have to stop.

Carlos will make an awesome ambassador. Let’s make this happen!

Love seeing another Fatty Ambassador. Great things are expected if you Carlos, and we know you’ll deliver.
First idea: put that Seven up as a fundraising prize.
Let me know if you need help with other ideas.

CARRRRLOOOSSS!
I only know him from the comments section, but he seems pretty awesome.

Carlos is the perfect choice. He is passionate about bikes and people. He makes friends wherever he goes. We know because he made friends with us when we met him at Davis, CA.
We will definitely support Carlos’ fundraising.
C-los for ambassador!!!!

Fatty and Friends,
Y’all are the best. I hope to do you proud in 2016!
@davidh – nice try! But that gives me some good ideas about fundraising…

Carlos will BRING IT once named Ambassador, and when he brings it – he DELIVERS! Buffalo Bikes are a package he would handle very nicely! Carlos in ‘16!

“Vote for Carlos” is going to be this decade’s version of “Vote for Pedro!”
I’ve had the good pleasure to know Carlos both through the blog and in person. I’ve ridden cyclocross with him. I’ve ridden road with him. I’ve ridden MTB with him. We’ve both got fat bikes–it’s only a matter of time before we ride fat together. (Carlos, 9:30a at Caryl Park in Dover on Sat Jan 16.)
I think about the only way that I could out-Carlos Carlos is on a folding bike, and that’s only because he doesn’t have a folding bike. Still, Carlos is so Carlos that he could probably out-folding bike me even without having a folding bike.
VOTE FOR CARLOS

I don’t know JeffD. ‘Carlos’ sounds kind of ‘foreign’. Do we know where he’s from? And don’t say Pennsylvannia.
Comment by GenghisKhan | 01.14.2016 | 2:25 pm
I don’t know Carlos from Adams (Actually, not true, I know several Adams and none of them are Carlos, but I digress), but would like to throw in my support for him. Besides his obvious love of bicycles and doing good things, his initials are C.P., which also is the same as “Cake Pops”, and who doesn’t love a good cake pop?
And yes, Carlos, you may use that as your new nickname, if you like!
Comment by BostonCarlos | 01.14.2016 | 2:31 pm
@Anonymous… actually, I was born and raised in PA. No joke.
Comment by Sara | 01.14.2016 | 3:17 pm
Carlos for Ambassador!!!
Comment by Jeff Dieffenbach | 01.14.2016 | 7:13 pm
“Dieffenbach” sounds kind of foreign, too.
Heck, “Anonymous” sounds a bit foreign as well. Maybe Latin, maybe Greek?
Hey, Carlos, what part of PA? I grew up in Wilmington Delaware, just south of the Philly part of PA? You from there, Pittsburgh, or the Alabama part?
Come on Fatties, let’s keep this train rolling. We need to get more pro-Carlos comments on this thread than any fatcyclist.com thread EVER.
Comment by Library Nachos | 01.14.2016 | 9:04 pm
I will put in my vote for Carlos as well! With what he has done for WBR, how could you not?
Well, he’s also helped build trails on our property, but I swear there’s no pay-for-play going on. Really, I mean it. :P
I think the only thing Carlos likes more than bikes are dogs. Not a bad combo. C’mon WBR, make him an ambassador already!
Comment by BostonCarlos | 01.14.2016 | 10:24 pm
@Jeff Dieffenbach – I thought I had told you! I grew up in Bucks County… Doylestown to be specific!
@Library Nachos… Definitely no pay-for-play going on… I barely built anything! Thanks so much for the endorsement! :)

”Bucks County’ sounds appropriate for a fundraising ambassador. Who says you can’t go home again. I hope the old neighborhood knows what they’re in for.
As for this new ‘handle’, I’m kinda of enjoying it.

Go Carlos!
Comment by Corrine | 01.15.2016 | 11:10 am
I only know Carlos from the comments of other FOF and from what Fatty has written about him but that’s good enough for me. Does that make me gullible? GO CARLOS!!!
Comment by Frank W. | 01.15.2016 | 2:09 pm
Who else? Carlos is the PERFECT choice for the job! Go Carlos!!!
